Before Ironhawk, Hailey was scared to ride her bike down the sidewalk, let alone her family’s driveway. She was anxious to swim in the deep end and she would have never thought to go jogging.
When her parents signed Hailey up for the triathlon and explained to her what it was and what it meant, she seemed interested and curious. She will be the first in her family to do a triathlon and that means something to her.
Hailey’s twin brother had major leg lengthening surgery last summer. She has been very supportive through it all, but she was in need something to fill HER bucket! Ironhawk practices would force her to step way outside of her comfort zone… but she did it! The ways in which Hailey has grown in the last month are astounding!
The girl who wouldn’t ride her bike just a month ago is now getting up every morning and riding 3 miles AND jogging 3/4 mile. The girl who has dealt with anxiety is now able to cope better and is feeling more confident in herself. And most importantly, she is proud of her accomplishments so far.
Ironhawk Juniors has made Hailey realize that she can push herself and achieve great things. She has been an inspiration to her family as well, and has taught them that it is okay to feel scared when pushed and through change, it’s how you persevere that matters!
Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon Club is a free, summer triathlon training program for girls ages 8-14 that culminates with a triathlon.
What this means is that girls ages 8-14 from the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area are invited to participant in our 8-week training program where they are taught the skill sets of swimming, biking and running. At the end of this 8-week program, the girls participate in their very own triathlon – some becoming a first time triathlete!
Registration closes Monday, May 13, 2019. Sign up now!
Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon Club was started in 2018 to build confidence and empower girls through a free triathlon training program culminating in a triathlon. Through our 8 week training program we teach young girls (8-14 years old ) the three disciplines of triathlon (swimming, biking and running) – to accomplish what may seem impossible. Girls learn to honor their self and others, the importance of teamwork and to be kind throughout the summer program. To assure there are no barriers to participation in Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon Club, all supplies required to complete a triathlon are provided free to participants who do not have them.
You can learn the specifics of our program and register on Our Triathlon tab.
Do you want to be featured on the Ironhawk website? We love to tell stories of the girls who participate in Ironhawk Juniors. If you have a story to share, please send it to us with a picture!
Seraphina Ulman didn’t know how to swim. In fact, she had never heard of a triathlon. “She needed confidence building,” Seraphina’s mother said. So, she signed up her daughter for the Ironhawk Juniors Triathlon Club.
Seraphina, 10, learned all about triathlon and thanks to the club, and free swim lessons, she can now swim freestyle and backstroke. Seraphina crossed the finish line with her Ironhawk Juniors family and friends.
I’m proud of it [finisher medal]. I keep it in a drawer where no one else can get into itSeraphina
